The Host

My first film that I entered into the NJ Ten Day Film Festival was my film "The Host" A mockumentary that blended the office and Anchorman. It was in my senior year of high school, and I had so many people help me out in so many ways it was awesome to have my closest friends rally behind my film. Out of 198 films, we placed in the top 30, so we and the other top 30 student films from High Schools across NJ went to the Burlington Theater where all of our films were shown on the big screen. It was one of the amazing experiences to have something I worked so hard to create appear on a huge screen in front of a packed theater.

When things go Wrong on Set

So your on set and things are looking great, but when making a film  I learned something very important You can prepare for everything, but it something will ALWAYS go wrong. During our production of our film Baker for Hire, the bathroom at the AirBnb we were shooting at and where our actor was staying broke. We weren't shooting until 7pm that night and it was 11 in the morning. The owner could not fix it, so I drove our actor to a dunkin donuts to use the bathroom. sometimes you have to bite the bullet and drive an hour and a half round trip so your actor can answer the call of nature. We also arrived at our AirBnB assuming it had an oven because the pictures of the kitchen showed what looked like to be an oven, and so we were all surprised when it turned out to be just a fancy cabinet. Sometimes there are things go wrong and it could have been prevented, other times it comes out of the blue and you just have to deal with it.  What I have learned after this exper...
Climbing and filming are my two biggest passions, and putting them together is the coolest thing to me. My dream would be to be filming the best climbers in the world, all over the world. I want to go to Yosemite the Mecca of Rock Climbing and be tied into the magnificent granite wall on El Capitan filming the greatest climbers. (You know the Mac Mountain wallpaper? That's El Cap)  I went up to climb in New York at Harriman State Park, the spot is known as "Powerlines" due to the huge powerlines that run through the area. I had a backpack with all my gear to climb, an iphone gimbal, an Ursa Black Magic camera, with a lens kit, and a tripod, and to get to the actual climbing spot, it's almost a 30 minute hike. I was so tired caring all that equipment but it was so worth it. As soon as we got to the spot, I set up my camera and I was so excited to shoot.  This was the result, check it out! How to Make a Fake Cake

For our short Film Baker for Hire, the Main character needs to bake a huge cake for his granddaughter's birthday. We were trying to figure out the best way to create a cake for this shoot. We just knew it would be so expensive to make a real cake so we needed alternatives. Some of the ideas we had were to bake part of a cake and the rest cardboard, maybe use a cardboard base with shaving cream, we even thought maybe cheap mashed potatoes would work. I decided to use four things, Cardboard, Duct Tape, Spackle, and Crack Filler Foam, it worked really well! First I duct taped several boxes I got from BJ's for free, then used Duct tape to hold them all together. After I had that solid foundation I began to Spackle the entirety of the box, it really looks like frosting. I had to make sure the Spackle was spread thin or then it would crack. After the Spackle dried I used the crack filler foam for decorative icing. I still am filling in little gaps and holes and touching up the Spackl...
